Tymur Valieiev, CEO, Sensus

Today we're delighted to speak with Tymur Valieiev, CEO at Sensus. With a background spanning nuclear power plant control rooms to high-energy physics, Tymur brings a unique engineering perspective to payment orchestration. In this interview, he shares how Sensus is helping businesses navigate the complex multi-PSP landscape and why legacy architecture is holding back the industry.

My questions are in bold - over to you Tymur:

Who are you and what's your background?

I am an engineer by background with years of experience in building and managing complex operational processes. Early in my career, I worked at the main control room of a Nuclear Power Plant and at an Institute for High Energy Physics. I studied engineering at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute and later pursued management studies at the International University of Finance. Building intricate technological systems has always been my core passion, which naturally led me to the FinTech arena, a space brimming with opportunities to refine business logic, security, and stability. Recognising this huge potential, I gathered a team of like-minded experts to build Sensus.

What is your job title and what are your general responsibilities?

I am the CEO at Sensus. On a daily basis, I am responsible for our overall product strategy, business development, financial budgeting, and leading our incredible team as we build and scale our platform.

Can you give us an overview of your business?

Sensus is a White-Label SaaS payment orchestration platform designed for any business that processes payments through more than one service provider (such as multiple PSPs). Instead of spending years and hundreds of thousands of dollars building custom routing logic, analytics, and settlement reports from scratch, merchants can use our ready-made solution. It cuts integration time drastically and saves businesses up to 2-3x on monthly engineering costs.

Tell us how you are funded?

We have built and scaled Sensus through a hybrid funding model, combining our own self-funded bootstrapped capital with strategic investments from private investors who believe in our long-term vision.

What's the origin story? Why did you start the company? To solve what problems?

The payment landscape is evolving at a breakneck speed, with new payment methods and innovative flows, like agency payments, emerging continuously. To keep up, businesses need a modern, resilient architecture capable of scaling both vertically and horizontally. Many legacy systems in the market simply lack the flexibility required to adapt to these changes. We built Sensus precisely to solve this problem: providing a future-proof, highly adaptable infrastructure that grows seamlessly alongside the business.

Who are your target customers? What's your revenue model?

Our target customers are any businesses or merchants operating with multiple Payment Service Providers (PSPs). Our revenue model is transparent and hybrid: we charge a monthly platform fee plus a fixed fee per transaction. For merchants processing high-volume, low-ticket transactions where a fixed fee wouldn't be cost-effective, we switch to a flexible percentage-based model on their monthly turnover.

If you had a magic wand, what one thing would you change in the banking and/or FinTech sector?

I would drastically elevate industry-wide security standards and data protection protocols. Security is the foundation of digital trust, and it is the one area that can, and always should be continuously improved.

What is your message for the larger players in the Financial Services marketplace?

Stop trying to rebuild every piece of infrastructure in-house. Legacy architecture wasn't built for today's pace, and partnering with agile, specialised orchestration providers like Sensus allows you to scale and adapt much faster without breaking the bank.

Where do you get your Financial Services/FinTech industry news from?

I follow a mix of industry-standard publications like Finextra and TechCrunch FinTech, along with continuous peer-to-peer insights from our team, partners, and active FinTech discussions on LinkedIn.

Can you list 3 people you rate from the FinTech and/or Financial Services sector that we should be following on LinkedIn, and why?

Patrick Collison (Co-founder & CEO at Stripe): For a masterclass in how to continuously innovate payment infrastructure and simplify complex developer workflows.

Simon Taylor (Head of Strategy at Sardine): For some of the best, most candid teardowns of modern banking infrastructure, fraud, and payment mechanics.
